Forget-me-nots Flower Cake

This sweet little two tier cake was designed to celebrate a special birthday. Forget-me-nots were the main theme, with the sweet story that the daughter used to pick them for her mum when she was little. It's so lovely to have an idea to work with that's meaningful.

Each little forget-me-not was hand cut and shaped with each tiny flower centre hand painted, it was a labour of love.

Being such tiny flowers I wasn't sure how to incorporate them into a big cake until I started looking at images of the flowers themselves  – they almost have a carpeting effect where they grow. I wanted the cake to have some height, and I came up with the idea of the tiny flowers enveloping some sort of shape, either a heart or a sphere. With each tier being 5" tall and then adding the flower covered sphere it looks impressively tall for such a little cake.

Not only did it look good; it was also delicious. Highly recommend. Anne Ormson

In 2015 I made it through to the last 50 in the last audition of The Great British Bake Off. Sadly I wasn't chosen for the programme but I need to carry on my journey as I can't imagine my life without baking.

I'd love to start writing my own recipes. So what better place to do it than starting a blog.
